A star is born
The global explosion of profile of Uggie can in many way be monitored via his Palm Dog Trophy collar. After all how often do we see a Best Actor Oscar doing a promo tour for a film round the next of the winning star. Might I say sometime never! Further proof of, not only the pulling power and prestige of Palm Dog, but the utility of the Palm Dog trophy collar……..
When I met Uggie on the steets of London his lead was attached to this most useful of gongs. As we know Oscars end up in the Little Boys Room or gathering dust in a show off cabinet. Not the fate of this most practical of prizes.
Uggie won his trophy Palm Dog collar at Cannes Film Festival in May 2011.
The collar had been created by DoggiDog – www.doggidog.com – pooch couturiers in Paris. From there the collar travelled with Alya from Wild Bunch – the film’s sale agents – to be presented to Uggie and his trainer Omar Von Muller in Los Angeles. The collar then travelled to London at the end of last year for a hugely successful promo tour of the UK. This included the arrival of dog, collar and Omar on the glam Graham Norton Show and the covetted BBC Breakfast TV sofa. From there the hardworking dog, collar and minder returned to LA where Uggie and his trophy collar appeared in a major triumph on the top rated Ellen Degeneres Show. The moment when Uggie plunges into a bashful full bow revealed the lovely trophy collar to millions of American TV viewers. What a victory lap!!! Wotta dog!!!
And if you want to go back even further you can trace the glorious path of Uggie to a flea market in Champagne. There in Soissy aux Bois charmed packed pup Mutley was discovered and transported to Paris with a couple of lifelong pals into a fashion fabulous world of film stars. And displaying that Give Back spirit that was so Mutt he set up the Palm Dog Awards in 2001 to harness his burgeoning star power. The mission to give a nod to the screen presence of hounds on the big screen. With the world wide acclaim accorded Uggie it has to be said that the dream of recognition has made a giant leap and bounce forward.
