A chihuahua and other latinos

Choco: Mascot at the PACA bar in the dock district of Valencia

Bullfighting in Valencia is in an arena near next main rail station Valencia North. So with animal rights on a par with commuting I was not sure what welcome those that woof would have…
But it turns out the city is awash with four legged. Ladies that lunch are pulled down the street by panting white Westies. Sporty dudes exercise the family mutt next to cycle lanes. Did I tell you that I cycle.
And then in the barrios the barflys chill with chihuahuas. I have heard of Beverly Hills Chihuahua but not the wrong side of the tracks version.
Portside Choco is a feisty fellow who rules the roost in neighbourhood bar PACA.
Cute, doe eyed, and full of fire, this was a dog with attitude. How apt that this little fella was flying the flag for the conquistadors who were top dog in Mexico for a few centuries. Now, in a reverse treasure flow, the Spaniards are taking in this diamond dog. What an import – what a link – wotta hound!

And wotta a great sign for a doggie loo – We LOVE!

Raining Cats and Dogs and still there is Drought

As far as I can see there is no drought about it!

As a roving reporter I feel I need to share my experience of the recent weather conditions in London. The place has been swept by more rain than you could imagine. Just when you thought there would be a break in the dark rain clouds…whoosh..along came another.
In the face of this inclement weather I would like to take my hat off to Dog’s Best Friend for venturing out in this ghastly climate to take us for a walk.
Not only do they have to do battle with the elements with us hardy souls but they are taking something of a time bomb with them on a lead and priming it. A dog in rain soaks up the rain like the best sponge. And as we all know on return there is the inevitable as night follows days, as Friday follows Thursday. Yes. The shake.
No matter what level of towel down goes on after passing through the front door, a further shudder and shake will always send more droplets flying in all directions.
It is a moment of folklore and joy but also has the potential to dirty an entire room, soil an entire wardrobe or ensure a full valet service will return the car to clean.
Yes rain and dogs means batten down the hatches and ensure that surfaces which stain easily are fully protected. Owners you have been warned.

Hats and Horses

Burger in a headpiece with added horse!

The Arts Club in Mayfair hosted a host of hatters – mad and otherwise – 24th April. The basement of the club was a head turning selection of the finest designs and many a conversation piece. Something for everyone.
My pick of the night was from a young gentlemen named Burger who came wearing an equine creation which drew much comment.
After the success of Philip Treacey’s Princess Beatrice effort for the wedding this is something the junior Royal might consider for Ascot Ladies Day. Let’s face it the confection might even make it onto the head of the leading lady in any future remake of My Fair Lady. A prancing stallion of headgear or to others a hat-mare. You decide.
