2008 Palm Dog Winner

2008 – Lucy in Wendy and Lucy – Kelly Reichardt

The unanimous choice of the jury members was WENDY AND LUCY starring Michelle Williams, directed by Kelly Reichardt in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival.

A tender tale of a road trip for Wendy (Michelle Williams) and her dog Lucy: destination Alaska. Their companionship is set against backdrop of smalltown America filmed movingly by director Kelly Reichardt.

“Wendy and Lucy has everything for a Palm Dog winne r. Dog food, a dog pound and the dogged determination of a down and out. Moreover, the dog’s name ‘Lucy’ is the most spoken word of dialogue in the film. Slam dunk!” says Palm Dog producer Toby Rose.

2008 Special Jury Prize:

Molly in O’Horten by Bent Hamer.

Molly is character number three in this story of the retirement of a Norwegian train driver. The untimely death of Molly’s owner is accompanied by a mournful whimper from the hound, unable to see her master’s face, which is masked. Odd Horten (the train driver) adopts Molly and this companionship brings new meaning to his solitary life.
