A fiercely contested title

The canine contenders for the Palm Dog were abundant in 2007. Among them were Tess from Control (directed by Anton Corbijn), the swimming dog from No Country for Old Men (directed by the Coen brothers), the poodle turned energy drink in the horror film Daddy's Girl (directed by David J. Evans), and the Rottweiler cross from Import/Export (directed by Ulrich Seidl). None of these, however, took home the coveted collar.

For the first time, the Palm Dog was awarded ex aequo to the talented cast of stray dogs from the Thai film by Pantham Thonsangl, Mid Road Gang, and to the mischievous Yuki, the animated dog from Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud.

A socially engaged ceremony

Filmed by American filmmaker Richard Balin, the 2007 Palm Dog ceremony took place on the beach in Cannes in a joyful atmosphere.
The directors of Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud, accepted the award on behalf of Yuki, delighting the audience with a few canine barks.

The director of Mid Road Gang also highlighted that there are 100,000 stray dogs in Bangkok alone, hoping that this prize would encourage the Thai government to take action. In a show of solidarity, the jury rose to the stage holding silhouettes representing the canine stars.
