Uggie, the unbeatable dog

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns, the Palm Dog took a different form in 2020. Toby Rose, founder of the ceremony, organised an awards presentation on the Zoom platform.

To mark this 20th edition, the esteemed English film journalist “designated the Palm Dog of Palm Dogs”. Winner of the 2011 Palm Dog, Uggie, the Jack Russell who made a name for himself in Michel Hazanavicius’s The Artist, was once again honoured. Dash, his stunt double, received the award at his home in Los Angeles on behalf of his four-legged friend.

Another figure honoured online

This online event was also an opportunity to honour Clare Balding, host of the podcast Dogcast and presenter of Crufts Live on Channel 4. The winner was awarded the Palm Dog Manitarian, accompanied by her Tibetan Terrier Archie, proudly perched on her lap.

In addition to being a well-known figure at Crufts (the annual dog show in England), Clare Balding supported dog owners and their pets during the pandemic through her podcast.
