A film inspired by a true story
This year, it was Britney (Brit to her friends) who delivered a masterful performance in War Pony by Riley Keough (Elvis Presley’s granddaughter) and Gina Gammell. The Poodle appears in a deprived Native American landscape, described as “an original choice” and “a stroke of genius” by Toby Rose, founder of the Palm Dog.
The character with the fluffy coat was inspired by the late four-legged companion of co-writer Bill Reddy. “He had a real bond with this dog, and it truly touched all of us,” Riley told the Hollywood Reporter, “and I think that day [the day of his death] inspired the whole film. We said to ourselves: let’s make a story about Beast.”

Stunning canine performances
Various canine performances on the big screen moved the jury of the Palm Dog 2022. Marcel, the canine character from the eponymous film, and the Sheepdog from Godland both received the Jury Grand Prize for their memorable acting.
Beyond recognising the artistic and perceptive talents of man’s best friend, the Palm Dog celebrates the unique bond between dogs and humans. In this spirit, the Jack Russell Patron, awarded the Medal of Courage by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for detecting explosives, was honoured with the Palm Dog Manitarian.
