Messi wowed the jury with his outstanding performance, earning the Palm Dog. In one scene of Justine Triet’s film, the Border Collie convincingly feigned illness. Throughout the Cannes Film Festival, the spotlight was firmly on the winner. The dog honoured on the Croisette even had the chance to appear at the Oscars.

Peter Bradshaw, jury member and film critic for The Guardian, described this prestigious ceremony as the “Met Gala of canine film stars”. A glowing tribute highlighting both the glamour and significance of the Palm Dog!

Several cinema artists awarded

Now an unmissable part of the film landscape, the Palm Dog jury awarded several other prizes. The dog who played Chaplin in Aki Kaurismäki’s feature film Fallen Leaves joyfully received the Jury Grand Prize. This was the director’s 3rd film to be honoured at the Palm Dog. Aki Kaurismäki himself admitted that “it was the finest award he had ever won”.

Other highlights punctuated the ceremony. British director Ken Loach received a Lifetime Achievement Award. Actress Isabella Rossellini, star of La Chimera, was also honoured with the Palm Dog Manitarian for her tireless work with dog charities.

An event full of surprises and emotions!
